Let’s just take a minute to talk about yellow. It is such an underrated color in design! Every time I see yellow in a space, it gets me pumped! The vibrancy, the energy! Not only do I get inspired, but I feel comfortable too, it gives me this sort of energized but mellow feeling.
Now, there’s definitely a balance to the right yellow. It can’t be too “highlighter” toned because that’s ultra obnoxious. But a nice pale lemon-curd yellow - delicious! A deep mustard yellow - eclectic! A gingery yellow - it has an edge to it! Right, so yellow can be awesome! But please don’t mix these different types of yellow together in one space, this just gets awkward, muddy, and confusing.
This gingery mustard yellow upholstered couch at Townshend’s Tea house makes me feel so comfy every time I visit! It’s my favorite couch to sit on or sit across from and look at. It totally brightens up the otherwise dark space! It creates a great focal point to the room, and there’s almost always someone using it.
My vote is, more yellow! But use it selectively, don’t use yellow in every space, don’t use it all over the space, and be sure to contrast it with something more neutral, darker, lighter, or opposite temperature-tone.
